Glasgow is Glottaltastic
We are off to Cardiff tomorrow and thought I am thrilled for the experience we are about to have, I will dearly miss Glasgow. It is a great city - kindofa college town with European architecture.
I will begin with Sunday night's haggis. We went to an Irish bar, mainly for the sake of irony. Or, we were desperately hungry and as some of you may know, a hungry Sammy is a scary Sammy.
WE had the most lovely waitress, Fiona, and a great meal - both Dan's Dad and I ordered Irish stew (in Scotland), and I HAD TO try haggis
and
um
I liked it.
It has a lot of organ meats in it (not a lot of sheep intestine anymore) and came with a side of rutabaga mash and mashed potatoes. I used to make rutabaga mash years ago diuring my "orange food" phase. And the haggis tasted like a good portabello stir fry - a lot of black pepper, though (as the Irish stew has as well).
When we arrived at our inn - it is a cool complex with an eight-room hotel, a church, a nursery and a breakfast room and very sweet people around - we found a magazine in our room - supplied by the hotel: "Where to stay in Glasgow." As Dan said, "Isn't that a little too late?" Well this place is great. Good maid servvice, too - though someone walked in the room randmoly when Mr Acquisto was there yesterday.
The first night we were there, we walked around Sauchiehall and Buchanan - kinda like 3rd Street Promenade and Old Town Pasadena meets the Grove. Sorry to those New Yorkers reading the blog, there is no comparison I can think of in NY. They have a branch of the geekorama store "FOrbidden Planet" complete with action figures of Kirk, Spock and a Star Wars Imperial guard shooting at them (I have a picture).
One thing I am loving about being here is that the tax is included in the price of foodm and that the tipping rules are very moderate - though we LOVED Fiona and gave her a tip that in the states would be a sushi meal.
AT breakfast yesterday (Monday), Dan's cereal box for Corn Flakes or whatev was emblazoned with the words "Ludicrously Good."
And I have to say this production (and it is practically a production - think Encores without the notebook) is also Ludicrously Good.
